In the method of moments surface formulation of dielectric scattering problems, two sets of basis functions are required for the equivalent electric and magnetic surface current density. In the Letter a novel simple basis function for the magnetic current is presented which is approximately spatially orthogonal to the widely used basis function developed by Rao et al.
