The effect of discharge current on the interface between a solid anode and a solid electrolyte has been examined using the Li/LiI(Al//2O//3)/PbI//2, Pb solid state galvanic cell. The paper reports the effect of pressure on the Li/LiI(Al//2O//3) interface during cell discharge. It was noted that the external pressure had a profound effect on the interface. Under a constant current of about 0. 74 mA/cm**2, an external pressure of 400 kg/cm**2 extended the discharge period from about 30 minutes to over 300 minutes. Furthermore, the formation pressure of the Li/LiI(Al//2O//3) interface also exhibited some effect on the discharge behavior. It was found that operational discharge time increased as a function of the logarithm of fabrication pressure. It was also interesting to note that a failed cell could be revived by again pressing the Li anode onto the LiI(Al//2O//3) electrolyte under sufficiently high pressure.
