摘要
Cultures and cell-free culture filtrates of the biological control agentBacillus cereus strain UW85 lysed zoospores ofPhytophthora cactorum in vitro. Changes in the ionic composition of the growth medium caused by growth of UW85 account for the lytic activity. UW85 raised the pH, excreted ammonia, and removed calcium from the medium during growth and sporulation. Zoospores lysed when pCa2+:pNH3 was greater than 0.8. The lytic activity was produced in uninoculated growth medium by adding ammonium chloride and base to create a pCa2+:pNH3 ratio similar to that of UW85 culture filtrate. © 1990 Academic Press, Inc.
