摘要
The wetting of ceramics by liquid metals and alloys is a major factor controlling the effectiveness of brazing which is used extensively in the joining of ceramics. The wettability of the molten metals against the ceramics was investigated by measuring the contact angle. As one of the measures of the adhesive intensity, the work of adhesion was found to be approximately proportional to the free energy for oxide formation of these metals, where the magnitude of the free energy is apparently in the order aluminium, copper and silver. This means that the wetting and the adhesion of zirconia ceramics with metals may be controlled by the easiness of the oxidation of the metals, i. e. , the affinity of the metals to oxygen in ZrO//2.
