EFFECT OF ALKANE CHAIN-LENGTH ON THE EXCESS VOLUME OF A BINARY MIXTURE CONTAINING A CYCLIC ETHER

Excess molar volumes VEmof {xc-(CH2)pO + (1-x)CH3(CH2)q-2CH3} (p = 4, 5; q = 6 to 9) have been measured using a vibrating-tube densimeter over whole mole-fraction range at atmospheric and T = 298.15 K. All the mixtures exhibit a positive VEmfor all x. Their magnitudes depended on the size of the ring and the number of carbons in the alkane molecule. The results are discussed in terms of interactions of the components. The Nitta and Chao equation provides a reasonable correlation of the results. © 1993 Academic Press Ltd.
