SINGLE-COMPONENT AND MULTICOMPONENT ADSORPTION EQUILIBRIA ON ACTIVATED CARBON OF METHYLCYCLOHEXANE, TOLUENE, AND ISOBUTYL METHYL KETONE

Adsorption equilibria of organic components in the air by activated carbon have been investigated at concentrations around a few parts per million (ppm). Various model isotherms for single-component adsorption have been tested using experimental data for methylcyclohexane, toluene, and isobutyl methyl ketone. A number of methods that predict multicomponent adsorption equilibria from single-component isotherms have been tested using experimental data for binary and ternary mixtures of those three components. The Sips isotherm has been extended for multicomponent applications. It is simple, and its prediction results agree well with the experimental data. The Grant-Manes method has been modified for use with systems in which the characteristic curves for different components involved do not coincide. © 1990, American Chemical Society.
