摘要
The variation of the nature and strength of acidic and basic sites in mixed oxides (consisting mainly of silica, alumina and magnesia) is described and related to the catalytic behavior. The surface species are considered to be either Lewis acid or Lewis basic sites. X-ray photoelectron and infrared spectroscopy have been used for the evaluation of site strength. The site strength found with mixed oxides was always in between the limits found for the components. Dehydration and dehydrogenation of alkanols and formation of acetone from diacetonealcohol are discussed as typical Lewis acid-base catalyzed reactions.
