摘要
Shape memory alloys develop a two-way memory (TWM) after repeated thermomechanical cycling (training) such that a reversible shape change accompanies the transformation in unstressed specimens. Two-way memory behaviour is generally associated with the formation and growth of preferred variants of martensite from the parent phase as a consequence of internal stresses, dislocation arrangements or retained martensite resulting from prior training cycles. In this paper measurements of TWM behaviour in five NiTi alloys are reported. The results are correlated with transformation behaviour and show the important effect of transformation sequence on the development of two-way shape memory. The measurements confirm the results of T. Todoroki over a wide range of alloys and conditions, showing that TWM is reduced by the occurrence of the R transformation during cooling. 14 Refs.
