摘要
Lateral buckling of continuous composite beams can occur only in a distortional mode, and is most unlikely in practical building or bridge structures of span up to about 35 m. Designers need simpler and less conservative methods of checking resistance to buckling. Recent theories, and current and proposed methods are summarized. Tests at realistic scale on T-beams and inverted-U frames at the class 2-3 interface are described. Their results are compared with predictions by means of five methods, four of which are satisfactory for these beams. The most versatile of the methods is that given in draft Eurocode 4. The beams are also shown to have sufficient rotation capacity.
