Single crystals of (I) CuLaW2O8 and (II) CuSmW2O8 were prepared and investigated using an X-ray technique. Both compounds crystallize with triclinic symmetry. Space group Ci1-P 1 ̄, Z = 2. ((I): a = 7.593; b = 8.081; c = 7.270 A ̊; α = 114.97; β = 116.30; γ = 56.49°; (II): a = 7.407; b = 7.944; c = 7.174 A ̊; α = 114.99; β = 116.31; γ = 56.89°).) The crystal structure and especially the Cu+ coordination are discussed. © 1990.
