CASCADING DEEXCITATION IN MULTIPLY IONIZED ATOMS

Intra- and interatomic electron relaxation has a strong influence on the cascading de-excitation of multiply ionized atoms which are embedded in their actual molecular or solid-state surroundings. This fact proved true particularly in previous studies of heavy-ion-induced X-ray satellite spectra where environmental effects strongly affect the parameters of the cascading de-excitation, first of all the X-ray fluorescence yields. These investigations provide useful background to an analysis of the charge-state distributions and Auger satellite spectra which have recently been recorded after K-shell excitation using synchrotron radiation. The success achieved in modelling experimentally recorded ArL(23)MM Auger satellite spectra encourages us to extend the study to some S-containing molecules where the environmental aspect is to be taken into account.
