摘要
Endotracheal intubation is associated with a significant rate of laryngeal damage and subsequent vocal pathology. A new airway for general anaesthesia, the brain laryngeal mask, has recently been introduced. The mask may be used as an alternative to endotracheal intubation in most general anaesthetics. Placement involves no laryngeal penetration, and is therefore associated with much reduced incidence of peroperative laryngeal damage. A double blind study confirms this. It is suggested that this mask is an important alternative to endotracheal intubation, and should be considered for all professional voice users undergoing surgery. © 1990 Raven Press, Ltd., New York.
