THE STUDY OF PHASE-TRANSFORMATION IN YBA2CU3O7-X BY DIRECT OBSERVATION OF THE INTERPHASE BOUNDARY

The interphase boundary of the YBa2Cu3O7-x transformation from the tetragonal to the orthorhombic phase was studied by direct observation in polarised light using λ and λ/4 compensators. The sample for observation was obtained by partial oxidation of the tetragonal phase at 400°C. Only the orthorhombic phase was observed behind the interphase boundary, which is in contradiction with the opinion that the tetragonal to orthorhombic phase transformation has a thermoelastic martensitic character. © 1990.
