摘要
The states of hydrogen adsorbed on reduced platinum-alumina and platinum-ceria catalyst were investigated by a temperature-programmed technique, either under a flow of pure argon (TPD experiments), or under a flow of hydrogen diluted in argon (TPDH experiments). The TPDH experiments lead to more well resolved peaks in comparison with the classical TPD experiments. The first peak of the time profile, at ca. 220-degrees-C for platinum-alumina and ca. 120-degrees-C for platinum-ceria is attributed to the desorption of hydrogen adsorbed on the surface of the metal particles. The metallic dispersion, deduced from infrared spectroscopy and from classical volumetric measurements, is in good agreement with the integration of this first peak. Hydrogen chemisorption in the sub-surface layers of the platinum crystallites is also postulated. Dissociative chemisorption of hydrogen on the cerium-oxygen bridges of the ceria support occurs at temperatures between 290 and 325-degrees-C. The amount of hydrogen stored on the support can greatly exceed the quantities of hydrogen bonded to to the metallic phase depending on the noble metal loading. TPDH measurements allow the determination of the accessible metal area of platinum supported onto ceria.
