摘要
The method of magnetic force scanning tunneling microscopy for imaging surface magnetic fields and magnetization distributions is presented. This paper reviews the key elements in its implementation, including probe fabrication, and presents experimentally supported theoretical modeling to interpret the images. The technique is applied to study important issues in magnetic recording, namely: (1) effects accompanying wavelength reduction in increasing density, and (ii) effects associated with insufficient overwrite due to tracking misregistration.
