摘要：

The annual and global variations in equatorial spread F (ESF) in the equatorial ionosphere are revealed in the form of distribution maps of ESF activity obtained for each of the 1-month periods spreading almost over the year. The technical descriptions pertinent to the current analysis of the ISS-b topside sounding data and the mapping analysis for the ESF activity are given. Furthermore, the intimate relations between the obtained ESF activity and the features of the background distribution of the electron density are demonstrated. Finally, a plausible mechanism for the interpretation of the observations is discussed.
