摘要
The increasing amount of fingerprints collected today has introduced a problem of limited capacity for storage. Although there are many image compression techniques currently available, there still exists a need to develop more efficient data compression methods for fingerprints to further alleviate this problem. In this paper, an efficient data compression method is proposed for digitized fingerprint images using B-spline functions. A description of two B-spline representation approaches are given along with some compression results obtained from a sample image. It is believed that this method of representation for data compression may also enable more effective algorithms to be developed to perform feature extraction, classification, or recognition of fingerprints.
