摘要：

This paper discusses the development of environments for supporting large persistent knowledge-based systems, based around the concept of object common to artificial intelligence, programming languages, and object-oriented database. A prototype, MOSS, was constructed to test the possible difficulties that one could encounter. The MOSS example is used to report how various features taken from the different fields interact when assembled in a single system, as a consequence of global design choices.
