DEGRADATION PROCESSES IN POLYCRYSTALLINE COPPER INDIUM DISELENIDE PHOTOELECTROCHEMICAL CELLS

摘要
It is shown that an important limitation on the durability of polycrystalline copper indium diselenide photoelectrochemical cells is attack on the ohmic contacts by corrosive electrolyte creep through internal grain boundaries. This can occur over internal distances of several centimetres. Improved crystal growth methods have produced PEC cells that average 7-8% conversion efficiency under Sylvania tungsten ELH lamps (100 mW cm-2) and 6 1/2% under AMI solar illumination. The efficiency is seriously limited by light absorption in the hydriodic acid-based electrolyte. The durability limitation is discussed.
