Relativistic distorted-wave calculations have been made of the cross sections for electron-impact ionization of U90+ and U91+ ions with the generalized Breit interaction included between bound and free electrons. Good agreement is obtained with recent electron-beam ion-trap experiments [R. E. Marrs, S. R. Elliott, and D. A. Knapp, Phys. Rev. Lett. 72, 4082 (1994)]. © 1995 The American Physical Society.
