The probabilities that n electrons enter counters for finite time intervals are formulated within a framework similar to that in quantum optics using the so-called Mandel formula. Arbitrary-order correlation functions are derived for chaotic electron beams to obtain the counting probabilities. Analytic expressions can be obtained for a measurement time much longer than the coherence time. The probability shows a sub-Poissonian distribution narrower than the Poissonian distribution due to the Pauli exclusion principle. The probabilities for coincidence counting on two detectors are also derived.
