摘要
The mechanical properties of carbon fiber-reinforced plastics (CFRP) prepared in mass production can be appreciably affected by the presence of defects. The aim of the present work was to consider a theoretical model for the stresses near the cut in a discontinuous ply, based on the concept of an ineffective length for that ply. Over this length the ply is unable to carry its full share of the tensile load, and, for a given external load, the continuous plies will be subjected to higher tensile stresses. The role of such an ineffective length is particularly important when two or more discontinuous plies are present in a specimen.
