摘要
Closed circuit tests with a 140mm diameter dense medium cyclone operated at less than 1.3 Relative Density (RD) using fine magnetite medium and density tracers have established the following effects of increasing the underflow to overflow diameter (U/O) ratio above approximately 0.82: (a) The partition density (D50) shifts lower than the feed density, i.e. negative offset occurs. (b) The D50 shift is substantially independent of the cyclone feed flowrate. (c) The density differential between underflow and overflow is reduced. The D50 offset was correlated to the mass split of magnetite to reject, and was quite sensitive to the size distribution of the magnetite. Consequently, with the larger U/O ratio, it was possible to operate this cyclone with coarser media, lower medium viscosity, and higher flowrates, without exceeding the 0.2 to 0.4 RD differential recommended for high near gravity content separations. It seems to be particularly appropriate for fine coal and mineral separations.
