Data for water adsorption at 293 K by an activated series and a heat-treated series of PVDC based carbons are reported. Type 5 (BDDT) isotherms were obtained for adsorption by each carbon. Total water adsorption volumes (a(s)) are lower than total pore volumes and Dubinin-Radushkevich micropore volumes previously established by nitrogen adsorption for these adsorbents. Possible reasons for this are discussed. Analysis of the isotherm data using the Dubinin-Serpinsky equation allows a qualitative assessment to be made of the relative polarities of the carbon structures investigated. However, no correlation between the parameter a0 (the specific water adsorption value from that equation) and the absolute concentration of oxide species present appears possible for a given carbon.
