摘要：

We first outline the role of features in computer aided mechanical design. Emphasis is placed on the aspect that features can highly increase the design efficiency. Alternative representation methods for form features in a solid modeling environment are discussed and the concept of a concrete implementation in a design system is given. The virtues of this implementation are demonstrated by examples.
