OXYGEN NONSTOICHIOMETRY OF THE (ND, CE)2CUO4-DELTA SYSTEM

Oxygen nonstoichiometry of the electron-doped superconductor Nd1.85Ce0.15CuO4-δ and nondoped Nd2CuO4-δ was determined using thermogravimetry and chemical titration analysis. The oxygen deficiency of Nd2CuO4-δ at 900°C and PO2=10-3 atm was approximately 0.04, while that of Nd1.85Ce0.15CuO4-δ was about 0.008, both being substantially smaller than that of Ba2YCu3O7-δ. In this system, however, a small amount of oxygen defect seems to play an essential role in the manifestations of superconductivity. © 1990.
