Gas permeability and cross section of latent ion tracks in polymers

摘要
Heavy-ion irradiated foils of Kapton (poly(pyromellitimide), Du Pont) are investigated by permeation of rare gases. The determined permeability coefficients are interpreted as the combined coefficients of pristine material and of ion tracks. With this assumption, one can deduce an effective, gas-specific cross section of the single ion track and its permeability coefficient.
