摘要
An eigenvalue-free region is determined for the far field operator corresponding to the scattering of time harmonic acoustic or electromagnetic waves by an inhomogeneous medium. In addition, a simple proof is given showing that for a nonabsorbing medium the far field operator is normal. These results are then used to derive a new method for solving the inverse scattering problem for acoustic and electromagnetic waves.
