FREE-SPACE MULTISTAGE OPTICAL INTERCONNECTION NETWORKS USING MICRO LENS ARRAYS

摘要
Presented here are new optical interconnections suitable for three-dimensional combining of lens arrays. Also described is a new multistage interconnection network with a self-routing function. The number of light paths which this network is estimated to be capable of handling is roughly ten or more times that of previously reported self-routing networks. Two separate lens arrays are fabricated to construct an 8 x 8 network of this design, and the feasibility of the proposed new interconnections is successfully demonstrated.
