SURFACE-NORMAL ELECTROABSORPTION REFLECTION MODULATORS USING ASYMMETRIC FABRY-PEROT STRUCTURES

摘要
In this paper, we discuss a family of surface-normal electrooptic reflection modulators using asymmetric Fabry-Perot structures with GaAs-AlGaAs multiple quantum wells as the active medium. Such resonator-type modulators provide a more than 40% reflectivity change for an operating voltage swing of only 2 V with a contrast ratio of more than 50. The sensitivity to variations of operating wavelength, voltage, layer thickness, and temperature is also analyzed.
