摘要
In this paper currents obtained by averaging over several tidal cycles are considered, they are usually called residual currents. Causes of residual currents are unknown in many cases, and dynamical laws like the Navier-Stokes equations cannot be used to model them. The aim here is to find a model for the reconstruction of a steady residual current from data. An interpolation of residual currents is modeled by a variational principle, fitting the data measured at several points in a region and at all points of the boundary. The model can be interpreted by means of the least-squares estimation with a given covariance function for vorticities.
