The solubility of silver chloride in Fe(SO4)1.5-H2SO4-H2O, ZnSO4-H2O and CuSO4-H2SO4-H2O solutions of hydrometallurgical relevance has been measured over the temperature range 20-100-degrees-C. The solubilities, which range from 1 to 85 mg AgCl/l, increase sharply with increasing temperature and moderately with the total sulphate concentration. The addition of 5-200 mg/l of chloride ion to the sulphate solutions significantly reduces the AgCl solubility by the common ion effect; the presence of > 25 mg/l Cl reduces the room temperature solubility to < 0.1 mg AgCl/l. The densities of the AgCl-saturated solutions are also reported; because of the low solubility of AgCl, the densities are determined primarily by the matrix solution.
