摘要
An analytical model is given to determine a stepped laser pulse that accelerates a target by a sequence of weak shocks and expansion waves so that the density loss in the expansion is recovered approximately in the succeeding shock wave. With ten steps and a maximum laser intensity of 8 multiplied by 10**1**4 W/cm**2, an Al target will be accelerated to about 2 multiplied by 10**7 cm/sec. Gaussian pulses are a fair approximation for the first few steps.
