摘要
To obtain the stresses in the tibia when axial and bending loads are imposed on the bone it is necessary to determine the cross-sectional area, the orientation of the principal axes and the values for the second moments of area referred to these principal axes for sections along the shaft of the bone. The geometrical properties of four left human tibiae have been studied. The second moments of area about the antero-posterior and medio-lateral planes, and load-bearing area of cortical bone and the orientation of the principal axes have been determined at seven levels along the length of the tibia.
