Plugs of porous polyurethane foam (PPF) were tested as adsorbers for pesticide vapors in air. Trapping efficiency depended on pesticide vapor pressure and time needed for the air to flow through the plug pores. Data are presented to optimize plug size and shape for any chosen sampling rate. The quantitation limit is about 0. 1 ng/m**3 in a 5-m**3 air sample. Advantages of PPF plugs include flexibility of possible flow rates, high adsorption efficiency and capacity, ease of sample changing and storage, and convenience for analytical extraction. An inexpensive, portable assembly that permits multiple samples to be taken simultaneously at closely spaced and accurately defined heights above the ground is described.
