THE AVAILABILITY OF ETHNIC MATERIALS IN PSYCHOLOGY JOURNALS - A REVIEW OF 20 YEARS OF JOURNAL PUBLICATION

Twenty years of journal publications of the American Psychological Association were reviewed for ethnic content. Results indicated a significant decline in the number of ethnic content articles that were published between 1970 and 1989. The lack of professional information pertaining to culturally diverse groups is viewed as significantly impacting the ability of educational and professional psychologists to serve a rapidly growing portion of American society. Potential factors that may influence the decline are presented and the need for psychologists to reexamine their efforts related to ethnic minority populations is discussed. © 1993 Academic Press.
