EDR is being used successfully to desalt waters for reuse. Capabilities of the process and the corrective actions possible when problems occur make EDR an attractive choice. Colloidal fouling, the most general problem, can be treated by manual cleaning allowing the EDR system to be recovered at low cost without need to purchase costly or unavailable materials.
