HEAVY QUARK AND PROMPT LEPTON PRODUCTION BY BEAMSTRAHLUNG IN E+E- LINEAR COLLIDERS

摘要
In TeV e+ e- collisions top quarks are predominantly produced by beamstrahlung and not by the familiar gamma, Z annihilation process. The same mechanism will create inside the interaction region a blizzard of c-, b-quarks, as well as leptons from their semi-leptonic decays. The phenomenon makes a linear collider resemble a hadron collider and must be considered as a background in any processes exploiting leptonic signatures.
