In Tilletia hyalospora 1- or 2-spored basidia were formed on the germination of teliospores (probasidia). The basidiospores were large ballistoconidia. Discharged on to fresh agar, these germinated to form branched mycelia of narrow hyphae from which ballistoconidia were formed on short lateral sterigmata. These mycelia also produced filamentous aerial blastoconidia which were not actively liberated The basidia were quite unlike those of other species of Tilletia. Taxonomic implications are briefly discussed.
