摘要
A number of differences in the .vphi. keratins were shown to exist among various avian epidermal structures. There is extensive electrophoretic heterogeneity within tissues and 2 elemental sizes of monomers. Feathers, natal and definitive down monomers have a MW of 10,500 daltons; scale, break and claw monomers .apprx. 13,500 daltons. Differences in the size of the monomers are due to the presence of an insoluble tryptic peptide high in Gly, Phe, Leu and Tyr. Tissue differences in composition are related to structure and function.
