摘要
The synthesis of a homologous series of sodium sulfopropylalkyl maleates with chain lengths of 12, 14 and 18 hydrocarbon groups, respectively, is briefly described. The CMCs in aqueous solution have been estimated from electrical conductivity and surface tension studies. The C18 homologue is distinguished by its unexpectedly low CMC value and the appearance of a distinct Krafft discontinuity at 37-degrees-C as determined by conductivity measurements and differential scanning calorimetry. It is suggested that the presence of the cis double bond in the molecule leads to the unusual aggregation behaviour of the surfactants.
