THE DETERMINATION OF TOTAL SULFUR IN GEOLOGICAL-MATERIALS BY COULOMETRIC TITRATION

摘要
The use of coulometric titration for the determination of total sulphur in geological samples is demonstrated. Sulphur gases are evolved from the sample by igniting at 1050 degrees C and are determined by automatic coulometric titration. The advantages of this ''no standards'' analysis are emphasised for an element for which the data on geochemical reference standards is unreliable. The precision of the technique varies from a coefficient of variation of 0.6% at 1.7 wt% to 10.4% at 41 ppm, agreement with recommended values for geochemical reference standards is generally good.
