摘要
The Sidney paleosol, developed in till possibly of middle Wisconsin age, has been found at four sites in the Richmond, Ind. area. Tills beneath the Sidney soil are inferred to be possibly of middle Wisconsin age on the basis of (A) absence of elements of early Wisconsin stratigraphy in the drift sequences, (B) the striking absence in the area of radiocarbon dates between 28,000 and greater than 40,000 or older, which implies a glacial cover, and (C) low intensity of weathering and weak soil-morphological features at Sidney soil sites, implying a weathering interval shorter than all of middle Wisconsin time. Radiocarbon dates from Indiana and Ohio are grouped into those believed to be from Sidney deposits and overlying Fayette till and those believed to be from Connersville organic silt and overlying Shelbyville till.
