ELECTROLYSIS OF 30 WT-PERCENT KOH SOLUTION AT 70-DEGREES-C ON IRON ELECTRODES ELECTROCOATED WITH COBALT

Electrocoatings of cobalt were obtained on iron substrate in 30 wt% KOH solution containing 5 mM Co(III) for temperatures ranging from 40-degrees-C to 70-degrees-C. The cobalt deposition rate and related faradaic efficiency are largely dependent on the applied cathodic current density. In 30 wt% KOH solution at 70-degrees-C, the presence of deposited cobalt is beneficial for the oxygen evolution, but does little to enhance the hydrogen evolution.
