摘要
The structure of membrane-bound ATPase, CF0CF1, was distorted by mild EDTA treatment, but without solubilization of CF1. Distorted CF0CF1 rapidly trapped protons from the lumen side without transport. Trapping required electric driving force, showed very high cooperativity as function of pH and hysteresis as function of time. It is discussed under the concept of a 'proton well'.
