摘要
Jojoba is a new crop grown particularly in South West USA and North West Mexico. It grows in arid regions under very inhospitable conditions and produces an unusual seed oil which is used as a replacement for sperm whale oil and has a number of potentially valuable uses. Jojoba is only one of several new crops of interest to the agricultural community at a time when many food crops are being over-produced and new uses for agricultural land are being sought. The US government considers jojoba to be one of the new crops suitable for commercialization. It was estimated that about 60 000 acres were under cultivation in 1988. © 1990 Pergamon Press plc.
