We feel that endocavitary irradiation makes a considerable contribution to patients with localised rectal cancer in that in many cases a colostomy and its associated morbidity can be avoided. It is very sad that the Philips' Company has ceased production of this equipment, thus depriving many patients with cancer of the rectum from receiving this highly successful treatment. © 1991 Springer-Verlag.
