Mathematical models of complex electrochemical reaction schemes are developed in which mass transport of reactant and products at the electrode surface plays an important part in describing overall reaction rates. Parallel and series reactions are treated in two ideal reactor configurations: batch and plug flow. Cell operation is restricted to potentiostatic operation which allows the model solutions to be obtained in analytical form. The model is used to simulate the behavior of a potentially useful organic synthesis; the electroreduction of oxalic acid to glyoxylic acid.
