Quasicrystalline Al//8//6V//1//4, Al//8//6Co//1//4 and Al//8//6Ni//1//4 have been prepared by rapid quenching at a rate of approximately 2 multiplied by 10**6 K s** minus **1. X-ray diffraction patterns show a small quantity of fcc aluminum and a quasicrystalline phase of the form reported for Al//8//6Cr//1//4, Al//8//6Mn//1//4 and Al//8//6Fe//1//4. The spacing of the lattice planes of the quasicrystalline phase decreases linearly with increasing number of 3d electrons on the transition-metal component. The crystallization temperature of this metastable state follows this same trend.
