EXPERIMENTAL-EVIDENCE OF QUANTUM TUNNELING OF 2D VORTICES UP TO 10-K IN BULK TL2BA2CA2CU3O10 SUPERCONDUCTOR

Low-temperature magnetic relaxation measurements have been performed in a sintered Tl2Ba2Ca2Cu3O10 bulk high-T(c) superconductor, with an applied magnetic field of 50 Oe. A temperature-independent normalized magnetic relaxation rate below 10 K is observed. The transition from the thermally activated vortex motion regime to the quantum tunneling regime is found to be very sharp, indicating the absence of dissipation in this magnetic field. The observed behaviour is explained in terms of single 2D vortex motion in the Cu-O layers.
